Rivers Edge Outfitters Rates and Trips

Our staff of thirteen guides is some of the very best you'll find anywhere, nine are members of the North Carolina Fly Fishing Team, the winingest fly fishing team in the country.

We guide all the waters in the WNC Fly Fishing Trail, including the new Fly Fishing Only Catch and Release section of the Raven Fork in Cherokee, the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, the Nantahala River, Tuckasegee River, Little Tennessee River, Cullasaja River, Horsepasture River, Chattooga River, the South Holston and Watauga River. The Great Smoky Mountains National Park is our backyard and as such we specialize in guiding backcountry wild mountain trout excursions to Deep Creek, Hazel Creek, Noland Creek, Eagle Creek, Bradley Fork, Oconoluftee River, Little River and many others.

If you've read about a stream in the park and would like to fish it, just let us know, we can make it happen. All of our guides were chosen not only for their skills and local stream knowledge, but for their personalities and abilities to teach. A great guide is someone who not only is an excellent teacher and instructor who seamlessly passes along his/her knowledge, but someone who is a great companion, one you don't mind spending a day with on the water.

Western NC has some of the best trout waters found anywhere in the country. From our shop in Cherokee, we have quick access to hundreds of miles of streams in the Smokies, in Cherokee, and in the surrounding area.
We limit ourselves to a maximum of two anglers per guide so that each angler receives a maximum of attention. From beginners to experienced, we offer the highest quality guided trips.

We float the Tuckaseegee, the Nantahala, the French Broad, the Oconaluftee, and The Little Tennessee rivers. These are some of the most famous trout and small mouth fisheries in the Southeast. A trip to these rivers is a full day trip and includes a remarkable shore lunch.

Typically we will leave the shop around 8am and return around 6 pm. These rivers offer you a great opportunity at latching onto trophy Brown and Rainbow trout on public water. It’s an experience you’ll not soon forget.

We fish year round on these waters, with some of the largest trout being caught during the winter months.

The Smokies
The Great Smoky Mountains National Park is one of the largest tracts of wilderness country in the eastern United States with over 581,000 acres. Over 700 miles of cold, clean trout streams drain the from Smoky Mountain’s high slopes.

Rainbow and Brown trout are predominant fish throughout most of the park, but the native brook trout, better known as ‘Specs” still swim in the highest elevation streams. These are wild trout and the fish are colored in magnificent colors.

Wade Trips in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. A fisherman’s paradise, the Smokies offer more than 700 miles of wild trout streams. These beautiful streams provide wade fishing for Rainbows, Browns, and Brook trout on a grand scale. While most trout in the Smokies average less than 12 inches long, they are the ultimate fresh water fly fishing challenge.

Many anglers rate the Smokies as their favorite place to fly fish. The Smokies are one of the last large, wild trout fisheries in the Eastern USA.

Wilderness trips in the Smokies range from $160 for a half day trip to $225 for a full day trip.

Wade trips on the Cherokee Tribal waters.
Rated as one of the top destination fisheries in the country, the Cherokee Qualla Boundary offers over 30 miles of premier trout fishing.

The Oconoluftee River flows out of the Smoky Mountains National Park through beautiful historic Cherokee N.C. home to the Eastern Band of the Cherokee Indians. The Oconoluftee River is a freestone river that begins life high up in the Smoky Mountains National Park. Many small feeder streams make up this beautiful river, to form one of the largest rivers that flows inside park boundaries. Once outside the park, the “Luftee” as the locals refer to it, flows inside the Qualla Boundary where it’s waters are stocked with numerous healthy Rainbow, Brook, and Brown Trout. The Cherokee Indians are long know for taking care of their natural resources, and the Oconoluftee is no exception. The Tribe stocks the Oconoluftee River and other streams located on the Qualla Boundary twice a week, so there is no shortage on trout in the waters of the Oconoluftee. The previous North Carolina State Record Brown Trout came from the waters of the Luftee weighing in at 15 lbs 9oz!

Raven’s Fork – Notably one of the most popular “Fly Fishing only / Catch and Release” fisheries on the east coast, Raven’s Fork has a large population of trophy sized trout. We highly recommend this guided trip as anglers have the opportunity to catch trout in excess of five(5) pounds on one of the most pristine streams in the region. Along with great fishing, we regularly encounter elk as we fish the Catch and Release section of Raven’s Fork.

Wade trips in the Cherokee Tribal waters range from $120 for a half day trip to $225 for a full day trip. See our rates page for detailed pricing.

Drift Boat Fly Fishing Trips
Not only are we blessed with miles of mountain streams, but we have several large water water fisheries as well. We float the Little Tennessee, the Oconaluftee, the Watauga, the French Broad, the South Holston, the Nantahala, and the Tuckaseegee Rivers. You’ll fish from a drift boat which provides a stable, comfortable casting platform to fish from. Trout in these rivers are generally much larger than those in high elevation wilderness mountain streams. During the summer months we spend a lot of time chasing smallmouth bass on the fly. If you’ve never experienced smallie fishing, then you are missing out on one of the most aggressive, hard fighting fresh water fish there in the Southeast.

Half Day Float for Two Anglers – $275
Full Day Float for Two Anglers – $350

Floats are limited to two anglers per boat. We provide the gear, drinks, and a great shore lunch.
